City Business Checklist
- Finalize your business plan – The SBDC offers a great online resource.
- Determine if you need a Fictitious Business Name. If so, post a legal notice in the newspaper. Call Lodi News Sentinel at (209) 369-2761.
- Determine if you need a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) from the Federal Government. This is a free service – CALOSBA LINK
- Does your business have employees? If so, obtain a CA Employer’s ID Number. CALOSBA offers additional information.
- Identify your preferred business location. Before signing your lease, confirm your business is allowed in the property’s zoning district. Contact the Community Development Department at (209) 333-6711.
- Apply for formal zoning approval with the Community Development Department.
- Obtain a Seller’s Permit, if applicable. The Community Development Department is available to assist in this area.
- Other agency approvals may apply such as
- Do you plan on doing any tenant improvements or construction? Discuss plans with the city.
- Submit a Building Permit Application. Contact the Community Development Department at (209) 333-6711.
- One month prior to opening your business, apply for a City Business License.
