Economic Development needs Community Development

Communities face big challenges...from high school drop outs, to teen pregnancy, to the growing middle-skills jobs gap. And these issues require big solutions. What your chamber of commerce has come to understand is that economic development and community development go hand in hand. Economic development means business recruitment and retention, but it also means fostering innovation, developing a skilled workforce, community image and branding, and promoting good public policy to help business to thrive.

As a part of the Chamber's economic visioning project 'Vision 2020' launched in 2014, your chamber of commerce has taken big steps towards tackling some of the issues we see in our community in the areas of Livability, Workforce Development, Economic Competitiveness, Tourism, and Business & Community Health.

Two large scale programs that have taken off through Vision 2020 are ABCD-Love Your Block, the Lodi Jobs Academy, and the Chamber's Hispanic Business Committee has been revamped with a new focus on empowering the Heritage District. And we are continuing to create more opportunities to serve the underserved areas of Lodi.

Your chamber of commerce is here to work as a CHAMPION, a CATALYST, and a CONVENER for our city. Take a look at one of our upcoming events below and stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved in our community development efforts as we move forward in our role as a CHAMPION for all in Lodi.

Upcoming events:
SPANISH TO ENGLISH BIZ CLASS
As a part of our mission to serve as a CATALYST for our community, your chamber is putting on a Spanish to English Biz Class to help Spanish AND English speakers better communicate "everyday" business phrases in their non-native language. We live in a diverse community and want all of our businesses to be able to effectively communicate with clients!
Time: Tuesdays. Oct 31st (8am-10am), Nov 7th-14th (2pm-4pm)
Location: Loel Public Library (104 S. Washington St. Lodi)
